Supporting Local Industry

As a local Awarding Body OCN NI is perfectly placed to respond to the needs of industry. The Northern Irelands Assembly’s Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development announced that one of the eligibility criteria for the Young Farmers’ Payment was that applicants must have at least a level two qualification in agriculture. The Minister committed that for those farmers who did not have an appropriate qualification one would be offered by the College of Agriculture Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE).

We worked in collaboration with CAFRE and sector experts to design the OCN NI Level Two Certificate in Agricultural Business Operations. To date 3,602 young farmers from NI have successfully achieved the OCN NI Level Two Certificate in Agricultural Business Operations qualification.

The qualification has provided participants with increased skills that meet specific local needs. The success of the qualification has also provided a significant boost to the learning culture within the agricultural industry in Northern Ireland, as proven by the number of learners wishing to continue and enhance their learning. Most importantly, feedback from learners has been exceptionally positive 95% reporting high satisfaction with the qualification.

“CAFRE has found OCN NI to be an excellent organisation to work with over many years. CAFRE’s aim is to assist the growth of the agri-food industry in Northern Ireland, though producing qualified people who are ready to make a difference. A highly qualified workforce underpins all economic development. OCN NI has a breadth of experience in the area of accreditation and demonstrates a willingness to understand the needs of the agriculture sector/ CAFRE has developed an excellent partnership with OCN NI and we certainly hope that this will continue for many years to come”.
