Getting to know you: Loraine

21/09/2020

Tell us about your career history to date.
Before joining OCN NI 10 years ago, I worked in the construction Industry for 14 years. I often worked away from home and was Project Manager on several major new build contracts. After working in construction, I became a restauranteur in Belfast before then moving on to OCN NI.

What does your role at OCN entail?

I work in the Business Development Department and my daily activities are office based which really suits me now after years on the road.

My role involves liaising with external new clients, providing advice on becoming a new OCN NI centre and supporting some of our established Third Sector Organisations.

Part of my role includes event management and I also support and work across other teams when needed.

What do you most look forward to in your role at OCN?

Working at OCN NI is very enjoyable, we work hard, but have great fun too! The dynamics of the Business Development team means that we are always developing new and exciting qualifications for our centres and their learners

I thrive on getting new projects and learning new skills.  Not being complacent is my motivator.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy going to the gym, walking, cooking and gardening. I also enjoy a spot of DIY and getting stuck into a really good book.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

When things go wrong…..use your head, your feet are for dancing…
