Statement on Calculated Grades (CAGs) for OCN NI Vocational Qualifications

20/08/2020

Open College Network Northern Ireland (OCN NI) is the second largest professional and technical (vocational) awarding body in NI which awards over 40,000 students annually. Our offices are based in Belfast and we are regulated by statutory bodies to develop vocational qualifications from Entry Level up to and including Level 5 across all subject areas.

On 23rd April 2020, the Minister for the Economy, Diane Dodds MLA, announced that learners expecting to receive a grade for vocational qualifications during the Summer 2020 period should receive a calculated grade using a combination of tutor/teacher estimates and centre statistical data. While this decision was unprecedented, both Minister Dodds and Education Minister Weir stated that it was a priority for young people and adult learners enrolled on these qualifications to receive results this summer in order to allow them to progress to the next stage of their lives.
