Update 26: Director of Compliance and Audit's Letter to Head of Centres

Dear Head of Centre,

I hope you and your team are coping well with the challenges we have been having in our joint effort to promote learning and support achievement.

OCN NI has provided guidance to your centre on 25th March 2021 which includes clear instructions on completing assessment of your individual learners and to enable us to complete the awarding process. I am writing to gently remind you that this guidance should be shared with all relevant colleagues in your centre.   Centres should also develop, document and share with all staff their own centre policy for awarding Teacher Assessed Grades.  It is essential that centre assessment and quality assurance staff are familiar with this guidance to ensure an effective process is embedded within the centre.

External Verification, including sampling, will be a key element of the 2021 awarding process, outlined by the Minister’s requirement that assessment and awarding should be based on the most  trusted sources of evidence,  so that we can meet the awarding requirements outlined by DfE and the NI qualifications regulator OCN NI will be provide further information and the selected sample to your centre week commencing 26th April 2021, OCN NI would like to encourage centres to respond to OCN NI’s requests in the specified time, as failure to respond, may incur a delay in the certification process.  Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee results will be certificated by the 10th or 12th August 2021, if centres do not submit results by the 28th May 2021.

Note the following guidance is available on the OCN NI website:

  1. OCN NI Vocational and Technical Qualifications Guidance for the Vocational Contingency Regulatory Framework (VCRF)
  2. How to Complete the VTQ Decision Making Proforma (Guidance Video)
  3. How to Upload the VTQ VCRF Results 2021 (Guidance Video)

Yours faithfully,

Simon Hamilton
