Working with the Further Education Sector

OCN NI offers qualifications to each of the six Further Education Colleges in Northern Ireland. We develop tailored qualifications in collaboration with employers, sector skills councils and other relevant agencies, to address skills in the Northern Ireland economy.

In partnership with Belfast Metropolitan College, we have developed the OCN NI Level 4 Certificate in Concrete Construction Detailing and Drafting qualification specifically to address skills shortages for a local employer, Creagh Concrete. Creagh Concrete had identified an industry shortage of trained CAD technicians, especially for pre-stressed materials. The company had previously carried out several recruitment drives and could not source individuals with the pre-requisite skills and experience.

Following the development of the qualifications, twelve students from Belfast Metropolitan College successfully completed a CAD Academy Training Course at Creagh Concrete Products Head Office in Toomebridge and have now joined the company in full time employment.

FE Colleges play a crucial role in delivering the critical skills to grow and sustain our economy. OCN NI’s responsiveness and flexibility as a local Awarding Organisation allows FE colleges to design economically relevant professional and technical qualifications which can be used to upskills the NI workforce and help support social inclusion.”
