Getting to know you: Jeanette Sproule

Tell us about your career history to date.
I have had a long career working in education, as a Senior Lecturer/Curriculum Development Manager in the North West Regional College and then Belfast Metropolitan College.  During this time, I had a secondment to the awarding body CCEA, working on Employability for the secondary school curriculum.  I have been with OCN NI since 2012, for most of this time employed as Qualifications Development Manager, and since last year as Qualifications Resources Manager.

What does your role at OCN NI entail?
My current role as Qualifications Resources Manager involves the co-ordination of resource development projects within OCN NI, liaising with potential resource developers, other relevant people from industry and internal staff about needs and expectations.

What do you most look forward to in your role at OCN NI?
Our centre tutors and learners really value support with the delivery of our qualifications which is provided through our resources and this gives me much job satisfaction.  Since the lockdown there has been greater focus on the use of our online learning platform Ambition, offering both blended learning and fully online learning courses. Online learning has now become critical and it has provided both opportunities and challenges for our team in helping tutors get up to speed with delivery of programmes using virtual classrooms.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy golf, travel and spending time with family. I am a member of Inner Wheel, a global organisation that supports many local, national and international charities and currently hold the position of Member of Council representative for Ireland.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
‘There is no I in Team’. We have a strong team approach within OCN NI which has contributed greatly to achieving the success we have enjoyed within the organisation.
